Description

1858 Large Letters Flying Eagle Cent, MS66
Only One Finer at PCGS

1858 1C Large Letters MS66 PCGS. CAC. High Leaves, Closed E in One. The Large Letter variety is affirmed by the AM in AMERICA being joined. Rick Snow estimates the circulation mintage of the Large Letters variety to be 12.3 million pieces. Beautiful light tan patination adorns both sides of this lovely Premium Gem, and the design elements are sharply struck, including the breast and tail feathers and the wreath, areas that are sometimes soft. Close inspection reveals no mentionable contact marks, and just a few small flecks take away nothing from the coin's overall eye appeal. This is likely to be the finest grade encountered, as PCGS has seen only one finer and NGC none better. Population: 26 in 66, 1 finer (4/13).(Registry values: N4719)
