Description

1858 Large Letters Cent, MS66
Unabraded and Well Struck

1858 1C Large Letters MS66 PCGS. High Leaves Reverse. Closed E in ONE. A high-grade example of the short-lived introductory small cent type. Flying Eagle cents are notorious for softness on the eagle's tail and the upper leaves of the reverse wreath, but the present piece approaches a full strike. The coin is devoid of apparent abrasions. The obverse legends are lightly strike doubled. Population: 45 in 66 (2 in 66+), 3 finer (11/18).
Ex: New York Signature (Heritage, 10/2016), lot 5124, which realized $6,991.25.
