Description

1858 Flying Eagle Cent, MS66
Small Letters Type

1858 1C Small Letters MS66 PCGS. Low Leaves. Closed E hubbed over Open E. The Flying Eagle cent was one of the shorter types in the entire history of U.S. coinage. The design was issued for three years from 1856 to 1858. However, varieties abound, such as this Small Letters coin of 1858. This example features impressive golden-tan luster on satiny surfaces with a hint of pale orange on the reverse. All of the obverse details are bold, with only slight weakness is noted on the wreath. A few trivial surface marks and scattered flyspecks are evident, but they are inconsequential. Population: 18 in 66 (6 in 66+), 0 finer (7/19).
