Description

Condition Census 1858/7 Flying Eagle Cent, Rare and Desirable Die Stage A

1858/7 1C MS65 NGC. Snow-1. Die Stage A. This is one of the earliest die states of this desirable and conditionally rare overdate that we have ever handled. The topmost feather on the eagle's wing is barely disconnected, and strong remnants of the 7 underdigit are evident at the top right corner of the final 8 in the date. The left base of the errant 1 is also sharp and readily evident in the obverse field above the first 8 in the date. Both sides display variegated coloration in honey-gold, tan, and medium brown shades. There is a well concealed spot in the center of the obverse, and the reverse field is peppered with small planchet voids (as struck). The early die state of this coin alone would more than justify a premium quality bid. NGC and PCGS combined have seen just seven 1858/7 Cents in MS65, and there are none finer (3/02).
