1858/7 Flying Eagle Cent, MS63
FS-301, Guide Book Overdate
1858/7 1C FS-301 MS63 NGC. A die chip centered above the
date is an important identifier for the FS-301, the best-known die
variety of the Flying Eagle cent series. Listed in the Guide
Book, it shows the corner of an underdigit 7 on early die state
examples. The present coin is a middle die state with only a trace
of the 7 visible, northeast of the second 8 in the date. The
coruscating orange-gold surfaces appear unabraded but display gray
streaks on the reverse from flan alloy impurities.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 532214, GSID# 213475)
