While the expansive nature of this mid-century gold Medal is quite desirable, the visually captivating design propels this piece to another level, reminiscent of early Art Deco design France was known for. Sergey Ilyushin began his aviation career in 1921, studying at the Red Air Fleet Engineering Institute. He gained early acclaim for glider design, earning a first prize in Germany in 1925.
