Superb Essai Ecu in Gold
Louis XV Essai gold Ecu au bandeau 1740A, Bust of Louis XV left / Crowned arms in wreath with date and mintmark, 42mm, 50.08g, KM-E3, Droulers-PH1, Gadoury 322 (R5), AU Details with considerable remaining luster. The strike is bold and both sides exhibit moderate hairlines and light handling marks. An extremely rare issue, with only 2-3 pieces sold in the last 35 years. The only record that we have in this period is the example in the Vinchon sale of 1978 estimated at 80,000-90,000 French Francs (approximately $16,000-$18,000).More information about French Coins.
