Description

Louis XVI silver Essai Pattern Louis d'Or de 24 Livres 1793 MS63+ NGC, Paris mint, cf. KM-PnB20 (there in copper), Maz-50, VG-372. A mesmerizing example and the only of this type struck in silver we've been able to locate in auction records through the last few decades. Dressed in a uniform gunmetal patina and embellished by notable mint flash, the piece conveys a most appreciable visual character, elevated by a cabinet tone likely due to long-term storage in a specialist's collection. With exceedingly crisp features, the offering at hand is a clear result of a firm strike and sound preservation, and can be considered a trophy for any collector of late monarchal issues of France.
