Description

Republic gold Specimen "Strasbourg - 2000th Anniversary" Medal 1988 MS65 PCGS, 60mm. 159gm. By F. Steiner. Commemorating the 2000th anniversary of Strasbourg's establishment as a Roman outpost in 12 BC. This piece stands out as an exhilarating commemoration, apparently one of just eight gold strikes commissioned and sold by the Numismatic Association of Alsace (Union Numismatique d'Alsace) seated in Strassbourg. One example is stored at the National University Library of Strasbourg, and one was donated to Pope John Paul II during his visit to Alsace in 1988, leaving only six examples available to commerce. Accompanied with various associated literature, two bronze jetons and the original box of issue.
