1949 Half Dollar, MS67 Full Bell Lines
Tied for Finest at PCGS and NGC
Major Condition Rarity at This Level

1949 50C MS67 Full Bell Lines PCGS. CAC. The 1949 Franklin half dollar was a well-produced and well-saved issue. Sharply struck Full Bell Lines representatives can be found in MS64 and MS65 grades without trouble, and while Premium Gems are scarce, they remain entirely within reach for a majority of collectors. None of that is true for Superb Gems, which are major condition rarities. Only four coins are so graded at PCGS with another example at NGC. Two of those five submissions have received green CAC stickers, including this one (5/19).

Speckled blue, gold, and mauve toning fails to subdue the frosty underlying mint brilliance. Each side displays a complete impression, and marks are limited to a couple of tiny ticks on the bell that are nicely concealed beneath the delicate patina. A wonderful coin for Registry purposes.(Registry values: N4719)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
