Doubled Die Reverse FS-801
Gem 1951-S Half Dollar
1951-S 50C Double Die Reverse MS65 PCGS. FS-801, formerly
FS-011.5. E PLURIBUS UNUM is lightly die doubled, with the spread
most apparent on the N in UNUM. A prior edition of
Cherrypickers' states that Fred Lindsey discovered the
variety. A gorgeous pearl-gray Gem with a good strike and few field
grazes. As of (8/09), PCGS has certified only a total of four
examples as FS-801: two as MS64, the present coin, and the single
finest as MS65 Full Bell Lines.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24T2, PCGS# 6687)
