French Colony silver Proof Essai Pattern Piastre 1879-A PR65 NGC, Paris mint, KM-E12, Gad-8, Lec-28. An astounding representative and just the third of these elusive Essais our firm has yet handled, designed by the famed Barre family of engravers and recognized for its convincing articulation of French sovereignty over Cochin China. Tied for the finest of just a small handful extant, this impressive state of preservation remains overshadowed by a compelling and superior aesthetic quality, embellished by neon hues throughout. A show-stopper to say the least, and among the prettiest coins in this very auction.
