Description

Bavaria. Maximilian I Joseph Taler 1819 MS67 NGC, Munich mint, KM701, Dav-551, AKS-48, Thun-43, J-13, Wittelsbach-2592. An already scarcer later date within the series, and yet one which usually deserves little comment on account of its often average-quality preservation. When located so unfathomably fine as the present example, however, it is difficult to find any adequate grounds for comparison with other coins within the series. While this is the single example of the date currently straight-graded within NGC's census, it is remarkable to consider that just four 19th-century Bavarian Talers of any date have been certified by that service, and those only by virtue of an added "plus" designation. Such could certainly be said to be wanting for this specimen, which radiates a fully Prooflike glassy finish on account of having been minted from exceedingly fresh dies. These are overlaid with an airy mottled metallic patina which nicely complement the fine flow lines visible over both faces. Without a doubt the coin that all Taler collectors will fight to own.
