Description

Brandenburg. Friedrich II silver "Prussian Science Academy" Medal 1751-Dated MS63 NGC, BDM-II pg. 244. 30mm. By N. Georgi. Milled edge. Struck to celebrate the Prussian Science Academy. FEDERICUS REX ACADEMIAE PROTECTOR MDCCLI Laureate bust of Friedrich II facing right // COGNATA AD SIDERA TENDIT Eagle flying above a landscape towards three stars, the academy's motto taken from Ovid and translates from Latin to "it [the eagle] aims for its related stars". Exceedingly reflective and flashy and seemingly deserving of a Prooflike designation. A firm strike yields a nearly full expression of the devices throughout that is fully appreciated when viewed in-hand.
