    Description

Brunswick-Luneburg. Christian Ludwig 5 Taler 1664, Dav-LS186, KM232, VF-XF, very sharply struck for the grade. Stamped '5" (Taler) on the reverse. 143.38 gm, 72 mm. The obverse features a horse above the city with a mining scene below. The reverse has the "CL" monogram surrounded by 14 shields. There is a metallic flaw between the horse and the city which extends through the flan and the surfaces are lightly tooled. A small crowned CL counterstamp for Christian Ludwig is visible on the hind-quarters of the horse, somewhat double-struck. Despite the blemishes, this is a very collectible example and 5 Talers are almost never encountered in today's market.
