German States: Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. August II Taler 1655-HS MS64 NGC,...
Description
Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. August II Taler 1655-HS MS64 NGC, Zellerfeld mint, KM441, Dav-6351. The Principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel was rich with silver and created vast quantities of coinage, but this particular type featuring August the Younger's portrait is relatively elusive, particularly in high grade. This exquisite example, certified near-Gem, boasts incredible iridescence under it's classic steely gray patina; prized shades such as royal purple, lapis, and peach. The pinnacle of all certified examples and likely one of the finest survivors in existence.Ex. Rockaway Collection (Stack's Bowers Galleries, January 2015, Lot 617)
