Description

Extremely Rare Erfurt Taler
Struck During Sweden's Occupation of the City

Erfurt. City Taler 1632 IS-EW AU50 NGC, KM19.4, Dav-5268. Plated in the Davenport volume that was first printed decades ago, but listed in the current Standard Catalog of World Coins as "reported not confirmed". That said, while the SCWC mention appears to be without basis, this type does appear excessively rare. In fact, a search through online archived auction data, as well as Wonsik's printed volumes of auction records that span 1999-2010, reveal no other modern offerings. As such, this example, with its even strike, delicate wear and pleasingly toned surfaces, may be the first offering of the type for sale in decades. An extremely rare opportunity for the specialist as such, and given its previous history of offerings, one that may remain without duplication long into the future.
