    Description

A Beautifully Toned and Deeply Contrasted Proof of Friedrich I

Baden. Friedrich I gold Proof 10 Mark 1901-G PR66 Cameo NGC, Karlsruhe mint, KM267, Jaeger-188. Immediately laudable for its superior reflectivity, with rich, satin-textured raised devices and charming variegated tone on both sides that not only elevates the brightness of the surfaces, but also helps add to the uniqueness of the appearance. While valued at a modest $2,000 in the Standard Catalog of World Coins, a search of archived auction records suggest much greater rarity; in fact, we have seen no other proof of this issue selling in the U.S., Germany or elsewhere in the past decade. The fact that this coin is presently the only proof of this final-date-of-type date graded by either NGC or PCGS only helps to confirm its true rarity. All considered, extremely underrated, and as such, a jewel that is certain to hold a prized position in the next cabinet it enters.
