Saxony. Friedrich August II gold Ducat 1747 MS63 NGC, Dresden mint, KM939, Fr-2868, Kahnt-656. 21.5mm/3.47g. Struck to commemorate the marriage of Prince Friedrich Christian to Antonia, featuring the flying image of Mercury carrying a torch. The lightly-reflective fields shimmer with delicate rose-accented color and the frosty design elements are well-struck for the type, presenting an impressive amount of intricate detail still fully raised. Minimal ticks here and there likely account for the grade, but do little to distract the eye. An ideal representative of this singular issue, presently the only certified example of the type, and rarely offered in the marketplace at this choice level of preservation.
