    Description

Hesse-Darmstadt. Ludwig VIII Taler 1758-R MS65 NGC, KM190, Dav-2322. Very likely, far and away, the finest known for this rare type. Beautiful old cabinet toning with significant residual luster and a bold strike. There have been only 3 examples of this Davenport number on the open market in the past decade, or so, and this easily outshines them all. When one encounters a coin that has a combination of condition and rarity such as this, price history and comparable auction results become almost meaningless; to buy the finest known example of a type, one should be prepared to pay a commensurate price, and we fully expect to see that with this coin.
