Description

Hesse-Darmstadt. Ernst Ludwig 5 Mark 1900-A MS65+ NGC, Berlin mint, KM369, J-73. Evidently struck with fresh dies, this Gem specimen features lustrous, satiny surfaces, contributing to its coveted Gem+ designation, and were it not for a handful of contact marks to Ernst's portrait, would be among the finest pieces in the session. Regardless, the piece remains scarce in any condition with only six straight-graded entrants between both services and only two of which handled by us in the previous decade; this being the finest by a full point-and-a-half and demanding of bidder engagement consistent with this fact.
