German States: Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Carl Anton 2 Gulden 1849 MS65+ NGC,...
Description
Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Carl Anton 2 Gulden 1849 MS65+ NGC, Karlsruhe mint, KM26, Dav-721, AKS-18, Thun-209. Carl Anton was the last reigning prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen before the territory was incorporated into Prussia in 1849. The 2 Gulden denomination seen here and also a 1 Gulden piece were the last coinage issued under the territory and the only two monetary productions bearing Anton's portrait. Though listed in some references as a two year type, Carl Anton succeeding his father as prince upon his death in 1848, existing examples from this earlier date are either of unknown whereabouts or prohibitively rare. The 1849 2 Gulden hails from a reported mintage of only 1,213 pieces, so collectors in search of this type under this ruler are contending over an extremely limited extant quantity. The specimen at hand is a gorgeous Gem Mint State survivor, receiving a "plus" designation for it's superior eye appeal; the second finest NGC graded example behind only the Cape Coral piece. A truly rare selection with the visual prowess to match.Metal: Silver
