    Description

    An Incredible Discovery Coin

Prussia. Friedrich II gold 2 Friedrichs d'or 1753-C MS63 PCGS, Cleve mint, 2nd coinage of 1750-63, Fr-2399 (Rare), Schrötter-89, Olding-418. An extreme rarity amongst German 18th-century gold issues, this example may very likely be the only piece in private hands, with only one other example confirmed in a state museum collection. All published references to this date/mint combination cite an example in the numismatic cabinet of the Berlin Museum (Münzkabinett der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin, Objektnummer 18219308), which could be considered to grade Fine, at best. This piece, by contrast, is beautifully struck and fully lustrous with some faint obverse adjustments which have negligible impact on the surface or engraving. The eye-appeal is superb and the discovery of such a rarity in this state of preservation is nearly unbelievable. Absolutely remarkable!
