Saxe-Eisenberg. Christian 1/4 Taler 1679 XF45 NGC, KM2. An attractive one-year type struck to commemorate the death of Christian's wife, Christiana von Sachsen-Merseburg, featuring a cherub on a skull, surrounded by a vase of flowers and a burning incense urn. Lightly toned, and with a good deal of luster remaining, this is a difficult coin to encounter in any grade, as indicated by cataloging at $3,100 in KM in XF.
Ex Ernst Otto Horn Collection (Künker 255, 10/2014), lot 5129.
