Description

Victoria Proof only date 1/2 Quart 1861, KM1. PF62 BN NGC. ex Remick and Pridmore collections. This is a mark-free coin that seems to have been downgraded because of the dark color, and the toning spot on the reverse castle. Medal die axis. The obverse has been struck with somewhat rusty dies and shares the die with the 1868 British 1/2 Farthing in this sale, with the date added, of course. As seen with some other British Colonial coins that are known with dates and mintmarks out of the ordinary, these were probably struck for some special occasion in Gibraltar. This portrait is different from the 1853 1/2 farthing as well.

Metal: Copper
Diameter: 18.00mm
