Description

1836 Gobrecht Dollar, PR55
Judd-60 Original, Die Alignment II
Beautiful for the Grade

1836 $1 Judd-60 Original, Medal Alignment, Pollock-65, R.1, PR55 ANACS. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment II (medallic alignment with the head of Liberty opposite ES). Die State F, one of the more advanced die states but lacking the final rim defects above the U in UNITED and the final A in AMERICA. This is the DTS website's plate coin for Die Alignment II. The old small-size ANACS holder states Restrike on the insert, but Die Alignment II coins are now known to be Originals; only Die Alignment III pieces are restrikes.

The coin displays mottle gold and lavender-plum toning over fields that are surprisingly reflective considering the PR55 grade. The strike is sharp, and eye appeal is simply outstanding for the grade.
