Die Alignment IV 1836 Gobrecht Dollar, PR40

1836 $1 Judd-60 Original, Medal Alignment PR40 PCGS. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment IV (medallic alignment with the head of Liberty opposite OF). The die scratch above the eagle's right wing is faint, but just barely discernible with magnification. The most recent research into the striking sequence of Gobrecht dollars indicates that between December 1836 and March 1837 the order was: DA I, DA II, DA III, Judd-61, DA IV. Considerable research is being conducted into the die emission sequence of these coins and more an-depth article is expected soon from John Dannreuther, in addition to the long-awaited book Heritage is publishing.
The surfaces of this piece are bright and there is a slight trace of reflectivity still in the fields, in spite of 20 points of wear. Generally untoned, there is a trace of golden color present around the rims. Light, even wear is seen over the design elements, and there are no mentionable or detracting contact marks on either side.
