1836 Name Below Base Gobrecht Dollar
    Judd-58, Unc Details

1836 P$1 Name Below Base, Judd-58 Restrike, Pollock-61, R.6(?) -- Rim Repaired -- PCGS Genuine. Unc Details. Die Alignment IV (center of Liberty's head opposite right side of F in OF). Die State B. This state shows only faint traces of the die cracks that connect ITED, STATES O, and LLAR; all other die characteristics seen in Die State A have been lapped away. These curious pieces were first offered at public auction by Ed Cogan in December 1859, placing the striking period for them in either 1858 or 1859. The strike details are remarkably well-defined, but each side shows numerous small abrasions. Something, we aren't quite sure what, happened on the upper-obverse rim and then it was repaired. Light gray patina overall with streaks and dabs of deeper gray patina interspersed.
