Description

1836 Gobrecht Dollar, PR50
Judd-60, Die Alignment I

1836 P$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1, PR50 PCGS. CAC. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I (center of Liberty's head is opposite the D in DOLLAR). No diagonal die clash mark is seen above the eagle's wing. All Judd-60 Originals were struck in the final week of December 1836, according to the Mint's account books. It seems odd to see a CAC sticker on a coin with 10 points of wear -- until you see this coin. It is truly special and even more so when it is compared to the often-seen heavily toned and / or hairlined dollars usually encountered in circulated grades. Of course, a magnifier will reveal a number of small contact marks. There is also a very shallow X-shaped scratch below the eagle's claw. But the color is pleasing gray-blue and easy to see through. Light wear is apparent over the high points.
