Description

1836 Gobrecht Dollar, PR55
Judd-60, Die Alignment I
Excellent for Type

1836 P$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1 PR55 PCGS. Silver. Plain Edge. No Stars Obverse, Stars Reverse. Die Alignment I (the center of Liberty's head is opposite the D in DOLLAR). Die State F at least, though the rim defects of the later two states may be obscured by the holder. The diagonal linear clash mark is just barely visible with magnification above the eagle's wing. It is now believed that both early, non-clashed, and later, clashed, dollars were all struck in the last week of December. This is a magnificent example that displays remarkable depth of reflectivity in the fields. Each side is lightly marked, the only exceptions being a shallow checked-shaped scratch above the 83 in the date and a larger contact mark below the eagle's leg. Much brilliance shows but each side has a light accent of gray-golden toning also. This would be an exceptionally nice type coin.
