1836 Judd-60 Gobrecht Dollar, PR60
1836 P$1 Name on Base, Judd-60, Pollock-65, R.5, PR60 NGC.
Silver. Plain Edge. No Stars Obverse, Stars Reverse. Die Alignment
IV (head of Liberty opposite OF after a medal turn). The diagonal
die clash mark is plainly evident above the eagle's wing. This plus
the lack of die cracks on the reverse indicates the Die Alignment
I, II, and IV dollars are all related, late-December strikings. The
fields are shallowly mirrored, as usually seen on 1836 strikes.
Slight high-point softness is seen on each side, and the surfaces
display gray, rose, and light blue toning, more variegated on the
reverse. Hairlines can be seen beneath the toning. The only mark
worthy of note is a short one (actually a planchet depression) on
the cheek of Liberty. (NGC ID# 26YX, PCGS# 11227)
