1882 Crescent Moon Round "Quarter Dollar" MS63 NGC. 0.18 gm. 9.5mm. Mike Locke's Wreath #9 page at calgoldcoin.com discusses this design as "Shooting star & main (sic) in the moon (known dated 1881 on a round 1/4)." The present piece is dated 1882, so it is either an undescribed variety or the listed 1881 date is incorrect. Locke writes, "Apparently made by California Jewelry Co. in San Francisco on or about the date given." A satiny green-gold piece with a few trivial field hairlines.Auction Info
