1849-C Closed Wreath Gold Dollar, MS62
    Above-Average Strike

1849-C G$1 Closed Wreath MS62 PCGS. CAC. Variety 1. One die pair is known. The 1849-C Closed Wreath comes from a mintage of 11,634 pieces. While it does not approach the extreme rarity of its Open Wreath counterpart, it is a scarce issue in its own right with only 113 examples graded by PCGS. Just 20 of these are in Mint State, none of which are finer than MS63.

Both sides of this MS62 offering display a considerable amount of luster on the bright yellow-gold surfaces. Sharper struck than usually seen, especially on Liberty's hair below the coronet, the leaves on the left side of the wreath, and the dentilation, areas that are sometimes weak. The tiny marks scattered about are characteristic of the issue, helping to account for the lack of higher-grade specimens. Population: 5 in 62, 5 finer (8/13).(Registry values: N4719)
