Description

1849-D Gold Dollar, Unc Details
Inaugural Issue

1849-D G$1 -- Cleaned -- PCGS Genuine. Unc Details. Winter 1-A. The mintmark is shifted slightly to the left. The first-year issue of the Dahlonega gold dollar was well-collected and is the most common issue from the series, making it a suitable type coin. This piece has well-struck devices that show typical softness on the hair curls under LIBERTY, with the other elements having sharp features. Vivid orange-gold patina shows faint undertones of olive on the surfaces that are draped in satiny luster. Abrasions are limited to only a few light marks on each side. Numerous hairlines impede reflectivity and nullify a numeric grade from PCGS, although the visual presentation remains quite pleasing.
