1849 Gold Dollar, MS65
Closed Wreath, Close Stars
1849 G$1 Closed Wreath, D-5, Close Stars, MS65 PCGS. A
lustrous khaki-gold Gem, well struck aside from a hint of softness
on the central reverse letters. The portrait is exquisitely defined
with both fields and devices refreshingly preserved. This piece was
struck from clashed dies, and the reverse is rotated about 20°
counterclockwise in relation to the obverse. PCGS shows only nine
numerically finer Closed Wreath pieces (4/25).Ex: Palm Beach Signature (Heritage, 3/2006), lot 1689.
