Description

1849 G$1 Open Wreath MS64 PCGS. Breen-6003. The first 1849 gold dollars had a small head on the obverse and an open wreath on the reverse. At the end of the year, the final 1849 gold dollars had a large head and a closed wreath. This Large Head, Open Wreath variety is a transitional issue, combining the open wreath from the earlier issues with the large head of the later issues. We are pleased to offer this lovely example with sharp design elements and frosty yellow-gold luster, accented by pale orange toning. A few tiny marks on the obverse prevented a Gem grade for this lovely example, and today, it may actually garner the higher grade.(#7502) (Registry values: N2998)
