The New Orleans Mint struck gold dollars in 1849, their first year of issue, the start of a glorious five-year span before the opening of the San Francisco Mint dried up the supply of gold heading to Louisiana. This MS62 piece has bright yellow-gold luster that defines the eye appeal. Population: 51 in 62, 68 finer (12/14).(Registry values: N1793)
