    Popular Southern Branch Mint Issue

    1849-O G$1 Open Wreath MS63 NGC. Variety 1. The R in DOLLAR is doubled and the mintmark is fractionally higher than on Variety 2. This first-year branch mint issue is collectible thanks to a mintage of 215,000 coins. Examples are always sought-after in Mint State. Well-detailed motifs appear over lustrous, light yellow-gold surfaces. Each side shows a number of small abrasions.(Registry values: N2998)
