Description

Mint State 1850-C Gold Dollar--Tied for Finest Known

1850-C MS 62 NGC. The 1850-C is one of the scarcer Charlotte gold dollars to locate in strict mint condition. The operative word in that preceding statement is strict. Only 3-5 pieces are believed known in strict mint state in spite of several times that many pieces having been certified as such by the combined staffs of the grading services.
The striking details on this coin are uncommonly well defined with strong definition on the hair of Liberty as well as peripheral stars. The fields are bright and semi-reflective, as often found, with numerous small abrasions present. The surfaces have an even, light, reddish tint and there are three dark colored alloy spots on the obverse of varying sizes, the most prominent being in front of the forehead of Liberty. Tied with several other pieces as finest known.
