    1850-D Gold Dollar, AU55
    Scarce D-Mint Series Key

1850-D G$1 AU55 PCGS. Variety 2-C. The low mintage of 8,382 pieces combined with the general rarity of branch mint gold from the 1850s make this Dahlonega dollar one of the key issues in the series. As few as 125 to 175 pieces are estimated to survive, many in low circulated grades or with impaired surfaces. This Choice About Uncirculated piece displays gleaming greenish-gold color with substantial mint luster remaining. The centers show typical strike weakness, although the peripheries are reasonably sharp and the date is bold. A few light lines and small abrasions are non-distracting at the assigned grade. Population: 13 in 55, 16 finer (10/15).(Registry values: N2998)
