    1850-D Gold Dollar, MS62
    Underrated Branch Mint Issue

1850-D G$1 MS62 NGC. Variety 2-C. The 1850-D gold dollar claims a low-mintage of 8,382 pieces and few, if any, examples were saved by contemporary collectors. As a result, the issue is scarce-to-rare in all grades today, but has always been underrated and undervalued, outside of series specialists. The surviving population numbers between 125 and 175 examples in all grades and Mint State specimens are rare.

This pleasing MS62 representative offers well-detailed design elements, with a touch of the always seen softness on the obverse. The reverse devices are sharper, with some interesting clash marks in the upper field. The lustrous surfaces are minimally marked for the grade and the overall presentation is quite attractive. Census: 7 in 62, 6 finer (10/15).(Registry values: N7079)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25BH, PCGS# 7511)
