Description

1850-D Gold Dollar, MS62
Conditionally Rare Dahlonega Issue
Attractive and CAC-Endorsed Coin

1850-D G$1 MS62 PCGS. CAC. Winter 2-C. Yellow-gold surfaces include splashes of natural reddish color that heighten the excellent eye appeal. Light, superficial abrasions are trivial in nature. Strongly struck devices contain only minor incompleteness along the lower-left obverse border and the corresponding area on the reverse.
Doug Winter has called this second-year Georgia mint gold dollar issue "one of the rarest Type One Dahlonega gold dollars" and also "among the most underrated and undervalued gold dollars struck at the Dahlonega Mint." Only 8,382 pieces were manufactured for circulation, and Winter's estimates a mere 125 to 175 survivors, with just six to eight in Mint State. PCGS's numbers agree, with a mere five finer certifications than the present MS62 offering. PCGS Population: 4 in 62 (1 in 62+), 4 finer (2/26). CAC: 2 in 62, 0 finer (2/26).(Registry values: N7079)
