Description

1850-O Gold Dollar, MS61
Scarcest New Orleans Issue

1850-O G$1 MS61 NGC. Winter-1. Gorgeous green-gold surfaces exhibit full detail and are devoid of notable abrasions of any level of severity. The 1850-O is the lowest mintage and scarcest of the six New Orleans gold dollar issues, with just 14,000 originally produced and a surviving population of about 350 to 450. The low mintage is not explained, but Bowers surmises that it is the result of low demand from depositors. Mint State examples are elusive. Census: 47 in 61, 32 finer (12/25).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25BJ, PCGS# 7512, Greysheet# 8059)
