    Description

    Select 1851-D Gold Dollar
    Only Two Finer PCGS Coins

1851-D G$1 MS63 PCGS Secure. CAC. Variety 3-E. Mint records indicate 9,882 gold dollars were struck at the Dahlonega Mint in 1851, a small total in absolute terms but somewhat generous in the context of the series. Doug Winter estimates the surviving population at 150-175 pieces in all grades, with 12-15 specimens in Mint State.
The present coin is an impressive Select example, with well-struck design elements that show just a touch of softness on the central devices. The pleasing greenish-gold surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster and show few signs of contact. Visual appeal is quite strong. Population: 4 in 63, 2 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 25BM, PCGS# 7515)
