Description

1851-D Gold Dollar, MS64
Conditionally Rare D-Mint Issue

1851-D G$1 MS64 NGC. Variety 3-E. A late die state example, with a heavy radial die crack from the I in AMERICA. The 1851-D is one of the most plentiful gold dollar issues from this mint, but is still only about half as available as is the 1849-D. It is also somewhat better-struck as a rule, being ideal for the collector seeking a single piece from this mint. As with all Dahlonega issues, however, the 1851-D becomes rare in Mint State, with Choice examples being exceedingly so. This representative is one of just five coins for the grade at NGC, and there is only one finer piece (9/14). The strike is sharp on the primary design elements, including the stars, though the LLA in DOLLAR and the 5 in the date are softly defined as usual. Bright green-gold color blankets each side, imparting ample eye appeal.(Registry values: N7079)
