Description

1852-C Gold Dollar, MS63
Scarce Issue

1852-C G$1 MS63 PCGS. Winter-2. The base of 1 in the date is repunched on this variety. Many extant 1952-C gold dollars display noticeable striking incompleteness in the center of the reverse that was caused by a foreign object that adhered to the die during striking. This coin does not display this feature, but there are some shallow planchet flaws (as produced) over and around the central devices on both sides. As a result, the strike has weakness on some design elements, particularly in Liberty's portrait. Both sides exhibit warm orange-gold color with more deeply set, green-gold undertones in evidence as the coin turns away from a light source. The surfaces are remarkably free of post-production distractions. PCGS Population: 12 in 63 (1 in 63+), 11 finer (7/25).
