Exemplary Superb Gem Mint State 68 1852 Gold Dollar

1852 G$1 MS68 PCGS. Superb! Here is a wonder coin that must be seen to be believed, the fields are bathed in mint frost and glow with radiant orange-gold colors throughout. The surfaces are what really set this coin apart, as they display virtually unblemished fields and devices. Each of the stars are sharp to the centers, and Liberty's curls are bold. Trivial die roughness is seen near the periphery on the obverse. In particular we note a very faint scuff in the lower right obverse field, and the only mark that might serve to identify this coin is a short scratch on the reverse which is directly below the 1 in the denomination at the far right of the serif, and of course a strong glass is needed to see this infinitesimal nick. On the reverse we note a full strike with complete definition on the tiny wreath, and the lettering is sharp around the periphery, even the central lettering and date are well struck. In summary, this coin is fully struck, nudges very close to perfection, and retains booming eye appeal. The combined NGC and PCGS population reports note three coins graded this high with a single specimen seen finer of this date. An epic coin that will certainly attract considerable and well deserved attention.
