    Description

Exceptionally Lustrous MS66 1852-O Gold Dollar

1852-O G$1 MS66 NGC. The 1852-O is a scarcer O-mint Type One gold dollar. Several dozen Uncirculated coins are known today, thus the '52-O is not conditionally rare in MS60 or better grades. However, in MS66 condition, this piece is tied with one other as finest known--both of which are NGC coins (6/05). This is an exceptionally lustrous coin that has mint frost that more closely resembles an S-mint gold coin than an O-mint piece. Evidence of heavy metal flow is seen around the margins, indicating this coin was struck from a later state of the dies. The surfaces exhibit rich reddish patina that deepens more around the peripheries, and there are no distracting blemishes on either side of this exceptional coin.(#7520)(Registry values: N1)
