Description
Conditionally Scarce 1853-C Gold Dollar MS62
1853-C G$1 MS62 PCGS. Variety 8-I. This Charlotte Mint issue was notoriously poorly produced, and examples exhibit some of the striking anomalies more commonly seen on pieces of California fractional gold. This example is bright and semi-prooflike, with attractive green-gold coloration over both sides. The central reverse details are somewhat mushy, as usual. The fields display a granular, orange-peel texture, and are rather "wavy", especially on the obverse. The luster quality is unmistakably that of a Mint State coin, however. Population: 9 in 62, 3 finer (8/07). (Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25BV, PCGS# 7522, Greysheet# 8066)
Weight: 1.67 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
