Another Uncirculated 1853-C Gold Dollar, Condition Census MS63 Preservation

1853-C G$1 MS63 NGC. Winter 8-I. This coin is not specifically mentioned in Winter's Condition Census listing for the 1853-C Gold Dollar, but, nevertheless, we feel confident that it is fully deserving of that distinction. The strike on both sides of this coin is more characteristic of the issue than that seen on the MS62 PCGS specimen in the previous lot. There is some softness of detail on the obverse over Liberty's brow and on the reverse over the date and the second L in DOLLAR. There are also a few isolated areas of striking incompleteness around the borders. That said, we stress that this coin is truly exceptional for the issue in the realm of surface preservation. The fields are semi-reflective--a feature that suggests a modest prooflike finish. Rich green-gold color flows over both sides, neither of which reveals an excessive number of abrasions. A vertical reverse distraction through the 1 in the denomination, however, is noted as a pedigree marker.
